TOPIC: NOAA  presents a systemic approach to building resilient communities: Enhancing capacity to respond to future disasters in the Gulf of Mexico

DESCRIPTION: NOAA’s Coastal Resilience Grants fund projects that improve a community’s ability to weather coastal storms. This webinar is one in a series designed to share lessons learned from these projects.

This interactive webinar will highlight work led by the Gulf of Mexico Alliance and Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant. The project engaged communities by using innovative methods and a systematic approach. Throughout the effort, project leaders say these three truths became evident:
• New tools are not always necessary to build resilience.
• Small grant programs can fill a real need.
• Community of Practice groups work.

This comprehensive project was able to successfully move communities from the idea stage to on-the-ground implementation for the betterment of the region and its citizens. Join us as we discuss the insights gained from this effort. American Planning Association continuing education credit is available for participation.
