The NOAA Marine Debris program is currently offering several nationwide, competitive funding opportunities for marine debris projects. The types of grants include:
- Removal Grants
These grants offer funding that supports locally-driven, community-based marine debris and removal projects, while benefiting coastal habitat, waterways and wildlife.
- Education and Outreach Grants
These grants support activities to educate the public about issues surrounding marine debris to:
- encourage changes in behavior to reduce and address marine debris
- develop and implement activities that reduce and prevent marine debris
- engage the public in active participation
- Research Grants
These grants provide funding for research projects focused on the persistence and chemical impacts of marine debris.
- Fishing for Energy Grants
These grants provide:
- commercial fishermen with no-cost opportunities to dispose of derelict and retired fishing gear
- support for direct removal and assessment efforts
