Resources: Capacity Building
Across Washington’s shorelines, coastal hazards can quickly outpace a communities’ cpacity to manage it in house. The CHRN aims to provide information and connections to programs throughout Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and the Nation that can increase the ability of a community to adapt. Many times, additional capacity can be found by collaborating with partners, hosting fellows, connecting with researchers, or leveraging capacity-building related programs.
Funding opportunitites can also help build capacity. To learn more about funding opportunitites, click here.
Fellowships
There are many fellowships available in Washington that can be leveraged for increased capacity related to coastal resilience work.
Partnerships
Coastal communities in Washington connect with many different partners throughout their planning process for coastal resilience, many of whom are CHRN Members. Connecting and collaborating with partners is a great way to bring in helpful expertise and increase local capacity for coastal resilience.
The Coastal Hazards Organizational Resilience Team (COHORT) is an interagency team established to enhance the resilience of Washington’s coastal communities and Tribes. The COHORT was developed in response to coastal commnities’ request for the state to help address the growing severity of natural hazards and helps provide hands-on technical assistance to help elevat existing local efforts, mobilize new efforts, and support collaborate, multi-benefit outcomes for communities.
