Dr. Maja Jeranko is an applied environmental anthropologist specializing in community-engaged research to support and enhance collective responses to environmental change. Her work centers on building just and equitable futures in collaboration with marginalized communities. She has conducted ethnographic research in coastal Ecuador, examining the lived impacts of sea-level rise, flooding, and earthquakes. Since 2023, she has worked in Seattle’s Duwamish Valley, co-developing flood adaptation strategies alongside residents in low-income and immigrant neighborhoods, in collaboration with Duwamish River Community Coalition.
