Johannessen, Jim
Jim Johannessen (MS, LEG) specializes in beach and estuarine assessment, mapping, and restoration design. He started CGS in 1993 and has performed coastal assessments and developed beach nourishment, soft shore protection, restoration and other coastal management designs in all Salish Sea counties. More and more, this work revolves around adapting to current and projected sea level rise and climate change. Jim monitors coastal projects, serves as a regional expert for Sound-wide studies, and runs educational programs throughout the region to facilitate community understanding of coastal processes and interactions of coastal modifications and nearshore habitats. Jim was the lead author for the 2014 Marine Shoreline Design Guidelines for WDFW and Beaches and Bluffs of Puget Sound white paper for the Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership and the Corps of Engineers. Jim and CGS have completed hundreds of soft shore protection and restoration projects in the Salish Sea, including working at about 50 waterfront parks. CGS is currently working with WA Sea Grant running the GIS analysis for the Prioritizing Sea Level Rise Exposure and Habitat Sensitivity Across Puget Sound project, with funding from the Puget Sound Partnership.
