Sears, Tricia
Tricia is the Survey’s Geologic Planning Liaison. WGS established a Geologic Planning Liaison position to connect WGS science more effectively with other state agencies, local jurisdictions, and tribes. This position focuses on the topics of geologic hazards, mineral resources, and climate resilience.
Tricia works with planners, geologists, and other professionals in local, state, federal, and tribal jurisdictions across Washington to better understand local decision-making, assess needs and concerns, gather feedback, and establish and maintain relationships. Tricia assists in updating WGS and external stakeholder resources. Tricia works to foster collaboration and the integration of scientific resources related to the Growth Management Act, particularly the critical areas.
Previously, Tricia worked as a Natural Hazards Planner with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD). Prior to that, Tricia worked for several local jurisdictions, managed a watershed council, and worked for a wetlands delineation firm.
Tricia holds a Post Graduate Certificate in the Study and Management of Geological Risks from the Centre d’Etude des Risques Geologiques at the University of Geneva, in Geneva, Switzerland. Tricia earned her master’s degree in Environmental Management at Portland State University and her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Kansas.
