Please be aware that today HUD announced the Notice of Funding Availability for their National Disaster Resilience Competition grant opportunity, which makes $1 billion available to communities that have been struck by natural disasters in recent years. This means that almost all coastal states are eligible (see link below). Phase 1 of the competition will provide grants for planning and Phase 2 will provide funds to implement some of the projects selected from Phase 1. Phase 1 applications will be due in March 2015. Please note:
· The competition promotes risk assessment and planning and will fund the implementation of innovative resilience projects to better prepare communities for future storms and other extreme events.
· All successful applicants will need to somehow tie their proposals to the eligible disaster from which they are recovering in some capacity, but can go beyond that disaster for future preparation.

In short, all states with counties that experienced a Presidentially Declared Major Disaster in 2011, 2012 or 2013 are eligible to submit applications.
